Framingham Risk Model

Framingham Risk Model

The Framingham Risk Score is a risk-assessment tool, taking into account factors such as age, cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, smoking status, and diabetes. This is used to evaluate the 10-year risk of having a heart attack in both women and men. However, up to 20% of heart attacks occur in women without any of the major risk factors covered by the Framingham model, partly because it excludes markers of inflammation or genetic predisposition, both of which are important in CVD.
